HELP WANTED: ZINE EDITOR URGENTLY SEEKS PLAYLISTS FROM ZINE READERS FOR SPECIAL VALENTINE PROJECT
Please send me a playlist! I'm in dire need!
Hello friend! It’s been a while! And, true to form, I meant to send this email like, a while ago. But I also find that Power of the Playlist readers/listeners tend to be procrastinators and people who enjoy working right up to a deadline (I say this with love and empathy! I am just like you!) so I’m hoping you’ll come through for me! I need you to submit a playlist and write up for our annual Blind Date with a Mix event and I need you to do it THIS WEEKEND. Then I need you to tell all the music nerds you know to do the same. The situation is dire and my inbox is STARVING. PLEASE HAVE MERCY ON MY HUNGRY INBOX.

Each year, I organize a “Blind Date with a Mix” for Valentine’s Day. For this event, people submit a Valentine playlist to Power of the Playlist by the end of January. They get to decide what kind of "Valentine Mix" to send in- it doesn't have to be romantic in nature, it can just be an awesome playlist. Nor does the mix have to be brand new, it can be an oldie but goodie. At the beginning of February, I post descriptions of the playlists at Poweroftheplaylist.com as “Playlist Personals” and people from all over get to read through the Personals Section and choose one lucky mix as their Valentine. On Valentine's Day, they receive a FREE physical or digital Valentine in the mail, designed by artist, Lauren Haase, with a link to the mix they chose and a lil Valentine message!
Over the last few years, especially since COVID, organizing this event has been one of the highlights of my year. These Playlist Valentines seem to genuinely spark joy, which is a tall order in February. Moreover, people who receive the Valentine’s know an actual person made the playlist they’re enjoying (a rarity these days!) and the people who submit the playlists know there’s someone out there enjoying something they made. It’s the kind of personal connection through music that seems harder and harder to come by these days. The kind that I’ve always cherished, since my earliest days burning cd’s for friends.
Anyway, if you made it all the way to the end of this, I’m here to say: we’re doing the event again this year and WE NEED PLAYLISTS. STAT. Rather than deal with a submission portal, I am having you straight up email me this year! So easy!
